Jothan Frakes, has worked as a volunteer maintainer of the Public Suffix List since 2008, and works tirelessly to engage, educate and evangelize the use and value of domain names as critical Internet infrastructure.

He has held senior management roles in numerous Regisrtty and Registrar companies, such as Verisign, worked as a subject matter expert for KPMG during the 2012 round of new TLDs, and is also the co-founder of numerous conference events, including the industry leading NamesCon and MERGE.SHOW which pioneered the concept of holistic digital asset conferences.

JOTHAN serves on the Executive Committee of the ICANN RrSG as CEO of ICANN-Accredited Registrar $$$ Private Label Internet Service Kiosk (plisk.com), and as the Co-Chair of the ICANN CPH TechOps group.

Registering his first domain name in 1991, Jothan has developed, pioneered and worked with a variety of systems in DNS, security, messaging, naming and hosting since, holding roles in numerous registries and registrars, and inventing a variety of technologies that are widely in use.

Jothan is often jokingly referred to as the “unofficial mayor of ICANN”, because of his long tenure within the community, ability to speak thoughtfully while holding respect within a number of different groups, and his appreciation of the nuances and depths of subject matter and perspectives.

An early pioneer in Internationalized Domain Names, Frakes has contributed as a volunteer developer with Mozilla, and played a vital role in the past 16 Years ensuring ccTLDs and new TLDs would function in most browsers and certificate authorities through efforts in coordinating the Public Suffix List with ICANN’s contracting and Stability and Security Advisory Committee, as well as collaborating with the IANA, ICANN's OCTO, and the Universal Acceptance efforts of ICANN.
